First of four dean candidates visits KU’s law school

The first of four candidates to become Kansas University’s new dean of its School of Law was on campus Tuesday.

James Ming Chen is the dean of the University of Louisville’s Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He has held that position since 2007.

He made a public appearance at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in Green Hall.

Chris Drahozal, a distinguished professor of law at KU, is chairman of the search committee.

He said the other candidate visits would be announced 48 hours in advance of the visits.

The committee should have a slate of candidates to forward to Provost Jeff Vitter for a final decision after Thanksgiving, Drahozal said.

KU is looking to replace former Dean Gail Agrawal, who left to become dean of the law school at the University of Iowa. Stephen Mazza is KU’s interim dean.
