The result on the scoreboard Saturday at Memorial Stadium might have depicted another embarrassing loss for Kansas University’s football program.

But the Jayhawks won a battle of a different kind Monday, one that could go a long way toward helping KU coach Turner Gill turn things around in the near future.

Rivals.com reported Monday night that Blue Springs High running back Darrian Miller, a four-star back who was the Simone Award runner-up in 2009, had orally committed to Kansas.

Miller, 5-foot-10, 181 pounds, originally committed to KU in early March. However, a couple of months later, the back who rushed for 2,798 yards and 37 TDs as a junior decided to re-open his recruitment.

Kansas stayed in close contact with Miller all along and, after taking his official visit to KU last Saturday, Miller elected to become a Jayhawk yet again.

“Maybe it was just being around the coaches and players more,” Miller told Rivals. “When you go up there, you really get a chance to see how everybody gets along when they are together. You have to believe if you are going to be a part of it.”

So far as a senior, Miller is averaging more than 200 yards a game and has racked up 1,645 yards and 24 TDs on 200 carries.

Originally ranked on Rivals.com’s list of the top 100 players in the nation, Miller currently is listed as the 23rd-best running back in the country. He chose Kansas over Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Kansas State.

“I feel I made a good decision and everything feels right,” Miller said. “My season is going well and we are playing well. I’m happy to make my decision with Kansas and get up there to get started.”

Miller plans to graduate high school early. He told Rivals he would enroll at KU in January, which would make him eligible to participate in spring practices in 2011.
