Lawrence police are searching for a suspect in a Thursday evening armed robbery at Presto Convenience Store, 602 W. Ninth St.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Matt Sarna, about 9 p.m. a black male entered the convenience store and showed the clerk a handgun. He demanded money from the clerk, and left the store with all the money from both the cash register and the safe.

Sarna said the suspect was last seen running northbound on Louisiana Street and then eastbound on Eighth Street.

The suspect is described as about six feet tall in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing jeans and a hoodie, and was bald with a scruffy beard.

Multiple police cars were in the area north of the gas station searching for the suspect. Anyone with information on the suspect should call Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.

sorry friendlyjhawk, way beyond B.A., and wasn't anywhere near that department. please, take another turn at the wheel!

The guy just needed some cash for Black Friday Shopping! They should have photographed all the homeless getting free meals on thursday and could have used the pictures for the store clerk to identify the robber from. Possibly could get the next 4 or 5 robbers as well. They could have shown the pictures to the next few convienience store stick-up victums as well.

---I should've noted earlier for those who don't know that this convenience store/gas station is just a handful of blocks from the drunk/druggie shelter. the guests that that fine upstanding shelter establishment attract to our fair city often loiter--I mean congregate--in the area of this store.

Now I know "What Do You Do With a BA In English." You sit around all day and correct everyone's grammatical errors and you do it without giving your name.

Happy Thanks-taking little g, but all of the liquor stores were closed Thursday night. Maybe he was getting "mad loot" to shop on Black Friday. We all must do our parts to help make the economy stronger so take what you want but spend what you take. This song is for you Mr. G-crook: "We take what we want. We do anything that we wish. We got no respect For animal birdy or fish. The grass does not grow. On the places where we stop and stand. River Bottom Nightmare Band. We know we're a mess. But I does not like to be clean. We don't brush our teeth. Cause our toothache can help us stay mean. We don't wish to learn. But we hate what we don't understand...."

Thats because the bad guys is probably buddies with the clerk and it's a pre-arranged ordeal. The red flag for that went up when he got the money out of the safe too. Armed Robbers almost never wait around for the safe unless the clerk is in on it.

---check!

According to Douglas County emergency dispatchers, about 9 p.m. a suspect entered the convenience store and put down a semi-automatic gun on the counter.

---"world's dumbest criminals, and still got away with it!
next time, Crook, don't bother with the actual gun...it's not necessary! just simulate a gun with your fingers, safer that way!

and why doesn't this store finally get a "drop safe" keeping $50 or less in the register? or are the thefts some kinda tax writeoff? this seems to be the most heisted location in lawrence! ... send Topeka the bill?

I blame the ... hoody!

The store should have had a "No Handgun" sign on the door. The robber would have obeyed the sign and gone somewhere else.

White? Black? Latino? Asian? How tall? How heavy? Why didn't the clerk take the gun when the robber put it on top of the counter? And say, "Oh! A gift for me? Thank you!"
