KU target Ben McLemore may wait until April to decide on school

Kansas University’s top remaining target in the recruiting Class of 2011 may wait until the spring period to sign.

Ben McLemore, a 6-5 guard from Oak Hill Academy of Mouth of Wilson, Va., has until Wednesday to sign with one of finalists KU or Missouri or wait until April.

“I’ll be shocked if he (McLemore) signs early,” McLemore’s coach Steve Smith of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., told Rivals.com on Monday.

“Ben would like to sign early and is leaning towards Kansas. But his mother wants him to wait,” Smith added to Rivals.com. “If he does wait, I don’t know what will happen. I’m sure a bunch of other schools will try to get involved. We have fall break next weekend and his mother really wants to sit down and talk with Ben. That is after the early period is over, though.”

Contacted later by the Journal-World, Smith reiterated, “Nothing’s going on right now (concerning McLemore signing by the end of the early period). It’s possible that could change but as of right now, nothing’s going on.”
