A KU student was struck by a red passenger car while walking on Jayhawk Boulevard Friday afternoon.

According to a witness, the 24-year-old woman was laying in the crosswalk in the street near Lippincott Hall. She was talking to people at the scene. Emergency dispatchers said the person was complaining of back pain.

There was no immediate word as to the severity of the injuries. The woman was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The driver in the incident was cited for inattentive driving.

Mr. Miles--Mellow out a bit--It is the Lawrence Journal World not the LJWorld. They have no idea who you are talking to. By the way what happened in 05, or are there 5 keith miles on here.

      1. alm77 (anonymous) replies

        Technically, it's the Lawrence Journal-World.

        1. WHY (anonymous) replies

My bad I probably confused everyone. People probably thought we were talking about the paper in Lawrence, Kentucky.

  2. Solomon (anonymous) says…

On the other hand, it is KU and not UK.

Oh for crying out loud. I hope she's okay. . . . but I guess also, it should be "lying" in the crosswalk, not "laying" unless a hen is involved.

      lol.

      Best wishes to the victim.

Walking is a hazardous occupation in Lawrence. One cannot assume that a vehicle driver will stop just because a person happens to be legally in a crosswalk. On campus I've even seen a driver swerve around a pedestrian just so they didn't have to stop---yes, they saw the person in plenty of time to stop. My guess is that it wasn't inattentive driving as much as the driver playing chicken---which I have seen many times.

Sympathies to the victim---must have been quite frightening. I hope you will be fully recovered both physically and emotionally.

There's just something about walking on KU's campus. It is a rare student who looks up to see if it's safe to cross the street. They always have their heads down texting, texting, texting. Then when they get off campus, they do the same thing.

It's best to avoid Jayhawk Blvd. Mon-Sat.
