Access I-70 from K-7 closed due to accident involving construction equipment in Bonner Springs

The Kansas Department of Transportation says an oversized semitrailer hauling an excavator on Thursday damaged the bridge at the interchange between Kansas Highway 7 and Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County.

The ramp bridge is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, including this weekend, according to a statement from KDOT spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls.

Qualls said at 2:45 p.m. Thursday that all access from the K-7 ramp to both directions of I-70 were closed due to the damage the truck caused underneath the bridge. Crews had to inspect the bridge and will need to perform repairs to several beams before it can be reopened.

Traffic access from eastbound I-70 to K-7 is closed as well.

According to KDOT, drivers should expect delays and should use alternate routes, including U.S. Highway 24 or State Avenue north of I-70, or Kansas Highway 10, which is south of I-70.
