Todd Reesing, the former record-setting Kansas University quarterback known off the field for his passion for finance, soon may have to learn the value of the Canadian dollar.

Reesing, one of two candidates to join the Saskatchewan Roughriders, of the Canadian Football League, told a newspaper in Saskatchewan that he expected to sign with the Roughriders.

“At this point, it’s looking like that’s probably going to happen and I’ll be finding my way up there soon,” Reesing told Ian Hamilton, of the Regina Leader-Post.

After being bypassed in last month’s NFL Draft, Reesing has spent the past few weeks exploring his options elsewhere. Saskatchewan has owned Reesing’s CFL rights since 2007 and has shown repeated interest in signing the former KU quarterback.

For Reesing, the mere thought of continuing his playing career in the CFL has the 5-foot-11 gunslinger excited.

“Just having a chance to play football after college is a dream come true,” he told the Leader-Post. “Everyone has high hopes for the NFL, but the reality is I was shot down based upon size. I had the numbers and the productivity in college, just as good as anyone else. The lack of height and size really set me back. But that’s no big problem. I actually think the style of play in the CFL is much more suited to what I’m good at — being in the shotgun, being able to scramble around and use my legs to create plays and improvise.”

Should Reesing be signed, he would become the fourth QB on the team’s roster, joining returning starter Darian Durant and backups Cole Bergquist and Kent Smith. Last month, the Roughriders released former Texas Tech standout Graham Harrell, which made room for Reesing.

Saskatchewan opens preseason play June 13.
