Fairgrounds plans set for review Wednesday

Plans for the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds and a potential new owner for a county park near Baldwin City will be up for discussion Wednesday by Douglas County commissioners.

Items scheduled for the second part of commissioners’ weekly meeting, beginning at 6:35 p.m.:

• Discuss a proposed Fairgrounds Capital Improvement Plan, outlining potential projects and costs for improvements at the 55-acre site southeast of 19th and Harper streets in Lawrence.

• Discuss a proposal from Black Jack Battlefield Trust Inc. that seeks ownership of the adjacent Robert Hall Pearson Park.

• Consider appointing a member to the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission.

The meeting starts at 4 p.m. at the County Courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets, with topics including: planned bridge replacements along U.S. Highway 56, east of Baldwin City; planned resurfacing of a portion of County Road 1023/458; and an executive session to discuss security matters and potential acquisition of real estate.
