LHS soccer falls, 6-1

The Lawrence High soccer team fell, 6-1, to Shawnee Mission South on Thursday at LHS.

Senior Olivia Dykes, who last month signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at William Jewell, scored the Lions’ loan goal.

“She was really getting after it, so that’s a positive,” LHS coach Matt Anderson said. “The girls are refusing to let their head hang. Their attitude is still really positive.”

LHS has lost 10 straight to fall to 2-11 on the season. Despite the score, Anderson said Megan Fleming was becoming more comfortable in the net.

“She’s been thrown into goalie. She’s doing a great job,” Anderson said. “We just need to get her more help defensively. Giving up six goals is rough, but she’s doing well.”

Merideth Warinner was another bright spot for the Lions, Anderson said. LHS will play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Leavenworth.
