Women’s agency changes its name

To better reflect its mission of helping the victims of family and domestic violence, Women’s Transitional Care Services has changed its name to Willow Domestic Violence Center.

When the organization was established in 1976 in Lawrence, its focus was helping women who were starting to live independently for the first time, often because of divorce, according to a press release.

Since then, the focus has shifted to helping those experiencing domestic abuse. The name change is part of an effort to increase community awareness about the organization’s services for domestic violence survivors in Douglas, Franklin and southern Jefferson counties.

The new name was inspired by the strength and resilience of willow trees, whose branches are known to sprout new roots even when broken and fallen.

smitty,

"lesbian batters" - really? I had no idea that the center had a softball team, but I think batters, as well as catchers, pitchers, shortstops and outfielders should be allowed to serve on the BOD, as staff, and as advocates.

Congratulations to Willow Domestic Violence Center for its ongoing vision to help those trapped in abusive situations. It is a critical organization and deserves your monetary donations to further its mission. Send those donations to:

For whatever reason this same story under another headline with some extremely informative posts is now printed without the usual carry over of those posts. surely this is an over site so here's the link.

A very good analysis of WTCS on the interview process by DENAK as well as an intelligent observation of how WTCS furthers the victim mentality of abused women.
