2010 KU-A&M
Kansas City, Mo. With tempers flaring in the second half, Texas A&M’s Donald Sloan said he and Kansas University’s Sherron Collins shared a brief conversation on the court.
“I’ve got them. I’ve got them,” Sloan said, referring to his teammates.
“OK, I’ve got mine,” Collins answered. “We got it. Let’s keep playing.”
The two team leaders wanted to make sure things didn’t escalate during KU’s 79-66 victory over Texas A&M on Friday night.
“There were no more problems after that,” Sloan said. “We were good.”
That wasn’t always the case in the second half, as players from both teams had to be separated by officials twice during separate incidents.
Texas A&M forward Bryan Davis said one of the scuffles started when he and Collins bumped each other when heading back to their respective benches.
“When you get in the heat of the battle of the game, it’s nothing personal,” Davis said. “You just want to do everything you can do for your team.”
Though Collins seemed to be involved in a lot of the dustups between the two teams, Sloan didn’t think that the KU senior was out of line.
“Guys being guys. Toughness. That’s how it is, especially when it comes to my guys,” Sloan said. “Nobody’s going to get punched. Nobody’s going to push us. Nobody’s going to do things that they probably do to other teams that probably don’t care. We’re men in here.”
A&M forward David Loubeau also didn’t have a problem with Collins’ actions.
“Collins knows how to handle himself. He just got caught in the moment,” Loubeau said. “He’s just being really emotional and really competitive.”
During the second incident, Davis and Kansas’ Markieff Morris both picked up technical fouls.
Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon believed the officials were just trying to clean things up.
“They should have got in there sooner. I’m the one that alerted the ref to it. The other ref was just standing there,” Turgeon said. “They should have got in there sooner. They shouldn’t have called double-technicals, but they did. They should have just separated them.
“It’s just two guys trying to be tough. It really didn’t affect the game at all.”
When Collins checked out for the last time, it appeared that he might have said something in the direction of the A&M bench.
Whatever the message was, Davis said it definitely wasn’t directed at Texas A&M.
“He definitely wasn’t looking at our bench. He was looking at someone behind the bench,” Davis said. “He wasn’t talking to us at all.”

Collins needs to be a "class Act" by none of his showboating and taunting that he did towards the end of the game! I want KU to win it all BUT with CLASS! We are starting to look like a team full of thugs with all these technicals lately and showboarting that is going on. Play basketball for pete's sake!
Celebrate AFTER we win the NCAA title....not before or until then!

There's an obvious difference in maturity level between Sloan and Collins. Collins, the team leader, lost his cool, and Sloan, the team leader for the Ags, kept his cool during/after the game. Anyway, Gig 'Em Ags and good luck to both teams in the NCAA tourney.

Showboating and taunting.....not sure if we saw the same game.
Someone behind the aggies bench was yelling at Collins all night, according the sports reporter and it spurred him on.
I didn't see him do anything that was out of line, or anything that other players around the country, in the league don't do all the time.
Hopefully, grandma, you don't hear any of the trashtalk that players do all the time on the court.

As I posted on another article this morning...you two don't know what you are talkin about. "Be a class act" Whatever, Sheron is the best guard in the country and he plays with emotion and some "fire". It would be nice to see some of our other players play with the same type of energy.
Grandma, you may want to reappear back in the 50s when everyone acted with "Class".

The team maybe ok with Collins but as an Aggie fan I am no longer a fan of Collins. There is no need to stare down fans and talk smack to the opposing team consistently over the last half of the game. Call it being aggressive, call it playing hard, call it whatever you want, it still shouldn't be apart of college basketball. And as an Aggie fan I will own up that Davis and some of the Aggie fans in the stands were out of line as well.

Mom, while you *see it as ok for KU teams to "act as other teams around the country" I expect better from a KU coached team. Fire and determination is one thing but showboating and antagonizing or taunting of players has no business from a KU team player. WE do have class at Kansas University.

Grandma you realize that you just posted comments from Aggies fans right? Of course they are going to have a different view point.

bankboy119: You are right on! Grandma, Grandma, Grandma. Pleeeeeaaaaase! I'm sure Coach Self can police his players. You might want to check on the grandkids. I'm afraid any more from you and the bloggers will give you a "time out."

There is, or should be, a certain decorum that goes along with being the #1 program in the country. It should be of a refined, polished, well-oiled machine, not of a bunch of thugs getting together for round-pound on the playground. That's why we have Coach Self here, not some coach who is always under NCAA investigation. This is a class program, and some of the antics displayed yesterday are not commensurate with that image. Play hard, and let your performance do the talking, not your mouth. It is more difficult for our opponents to talk trash on someone who went out and played an excellent game!

Number 1 Grandma. You're right, if KU just shuts up and actually plays, they win, but they're trying to make up for their laziness with showboating. Self needs to motivate this bunch, or let some of the guys down the bench have a shot. Better to let someone play who wants to than let a bunch of prima donnas lollygag their way to an early loss.

If thats what it takes to get Sherron to go 26 pt and 6 assists with 1 t/o, then so be it. As long as that killer instinct kicks in and we dominate teams then whats the big deal?

Maybe Sharon ought to set his sights on being the best guard in the conference or even in the state first

Did the KU game interrupt your latest episode of Let It to Beaver?
It's called competition. Deal with it.

Sure Coach Self can police his players (Like he did when fighting with KU football team LOL) Your name says it all....You know nothing about KANSAS basketball and what it means to play here. Not only do we expect to win but win with CLASS! We sometimes lose but again with class! Look it up in the dictionary sonny!

I'm confused about Sherron's answer to Sloan, "Ok, I've got mine." I only have the TV viewpoint, but in my opinion, none of our other players needed Collins to keep THEM under control. He was having trouble controlling himself. I've seen it in other games, especially those where he hits a slight slump. Sherron is a b-ball beast and I'm glad he's playing for us. But I have to agree with some of my fellow fans (here in enemy territory) who are sometimes chagrined by his behavior on the court. Sherron, you are a huge talent...let that speak for itself. Of the two "leaders" in this particular game, I think Collins could take a cue from Sloan.
