Man leads police on car chase through Douglas, Franklin counties
A 20-year-old Fort Scott man led Lawrence police on a car chase through two counties before being arrested early Monday morning.
According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, officers saw the man’s car stopped in the roadway at Sixth Street and Lawrence Avenue. When police approached the car at 12:38 a.m., it drove away, first driving into northwest Lawrence, then to Iowa Street and later south of Lawrence. The car traveled on rural roads south through Douglas County and later into Franklin County, ending on Interstate 35. The car reached speeds higher than 90 miles per hour.
Officers from both counties pursued the car until it reached mile marker 172, when it voluntarily pulled over at 1:16 a.m.
McLaren said the man was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The driver was also suspected of being impaired.
