A Lawrence man facing charges of committing multiple sex crimes against a 6-year-old girl was back in a Douglas County courtroom Wednesday.

District Judge Michael Malone set a preliminary hearing in the 29-year-old man's case for Aug. 18.

The defendant faces a number of charges that carry a life sentence if convicted, including two counts of rape, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy, indecent liberties with a child and sexual exploitation of a child.

Lawrence police arrested the suspect last week after a family member discovered a DVD containing child pornography.

There can never be a penalty harsh enough. A 6 year old?!? This perp (if guilty) should never see the light of day again.

Let me guess... His dog rejected his advances, so he turned to the nearest child.
