Lawrence High’s Minnis dominates all-stars

? A few hours after learning he’d been selected in the 33rd round of Wednesday’s major-league baseball first-year player draft, Albert Minnis was back on the mound.

The former Lawrence High standout pitched two scoreless innings during the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches All-Star showcase Wednesday afternoon, striking out all six batters he faced in a near-flawless outing.

“To be honest with you, he just flat dominated,” said Lawrence High coach Brad Stoll, who coached one of the showcase’s four teams. “He saw six hitters, and, really, I don’t think anybody put a bat on the ball.”

Perhaps more impressive, however, is that the 6-foot, 190-pound Minnis, not necessarily known for his base-path prowess, finished the game with a stolen base.

“I was coaching third, and we both had kind of a laugh about that,” Stoll said.
