’Riders release Reesing

After a long courtship of former Kansas University football player Todd Reesing, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have released the record-setting quarterback.

Reesing, who signed with the Canadian Football League team in late May, became the fifth quarterback on the roster. Tuesday, Saskatchewan coach Ken Miller told The Canadian Press that letting Reesing go was a tough decision.

“It wasn’t so much that (Reesing) was the odd man out as the others were in,” Miller told the website. “When you have your returning starter that’s an obvious choice. When you have someone who has CFL experience that’s an obvious choice.”

Reesing’s departure leaves Saskatchewan with four quarterbacks: Starter Darian Durant and backups Ryan Dinwiddie, Cole Bergquist and Kent Smith.

Reesing was unavailable for comment Tuesday night.
