A Lawrence woman, 18-year-old Irina Seitz, is hospitalized in the Kansas City area with injuries she suffered in a car crash 2:15 Sunday morning.

She was traveling in southwest Douglas County when authorities say she failed to negotiate a curve on County Road 458 at East 850. Her 2002 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway and entered a farm field.

“It flipped several times, and the passenger was ejected,” said Sgt. Steve Lewis of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency crews transported her to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and she was later transported by air to a Kansas City-area hospital.

It isn’t known if she was wearing a seat belt. Police believe alcohol and speed could have been factors in the crash.
