Lawrence wrestlers sitting pretty

? The Lawrence High wrestling team sits in third place at the Husky Invitational as the tournament enters its final day at Blue Valley Northwest.

“We’re about staying focused and continuing to push the pace of our opponents,” LHS coach Pat Naughton said. “They’ve really responded to it.”

If 171-pounder Reece Wright-Conklin wins his semifinal today, his likely opponent in the final will be two-time defending state champion Parker Madl of Blue Valley, who is being heavily recruited by several big-name schools, including Oklahoma. Conklin first must get past Jared Hoops of Blue Valley North.

“It’s one of the toughest tournaments in the state of Kansas,” Naughton said, “and we’re in third place.”
