Four football preps commit to Kansas

Following a busy recruiting weekend in Lawrence, the Kansas University football team landed four new commitments to its 2010 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com.

The group, highlighted by three-star wide receiver Brian Maura (Miami), also is made of Blue Valley West defensive end Pat Lewandowski, Cedar Falls (Iowa) High safety Jake Farley and Woodberry Forest (Virginia) High offensive tackle Chad Kolumber.

A 6-foot-3, 190-pound speedster, Maura finished among the top 10 in Dade County in receiving yards and touchdowns caught as a senior while returning four kicks for touchdowns.

“The trip was awesome,” Maura told Rivals. “Coach (Turner) Gill is a great coach, and he’s there for all of the right reasons. … I just had that feeling. It really wowed me.”

Farley, the son of former Kansas linebackers coach and current Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley, previously had committed to SMU before ultimately deciding on Kansas. He’s a 6-2 safety who received all-state honors.

Lewandowski is just the second in-state player in the team’s 2010 recruiting class. At 6-6 and 240 pounds, he received late interest from Kansas State and Nebraska, according to Rivals.

Kolumber, 6-8 and 286 pounds, had offers from Buffalo, Marshall and Rhode Island.
