Fast-food employee sentenced in robbery
A Douglas County District Court judge on Tuesday sentenced a man to two years’ probation for concocting a story about a robbery at a Lawrence fast-food restaurant.
Kristopher Wenberg, Lawrence, initially told police he was the victim of a robbery Nov. 6 at Long John Silver’s, 1501 W. 23rd St. Wenberg claimed that two men knocked him unconscious and drove him to a rural road north of Lawrence. He said they took his keys and stole money from the restaurant.
Wenberg pleaded no contest last month to charges of burglary, theft and falsely reporting a crime, admitting that he stole money from the safe at the business then made up the phony story.
The judge also ordered Wenberg to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and complete a theft offender program.
