Police arrest suspect in Orchards Drug robbery

Lawrence police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old suspect in a robbery last week at Orchards Drug.

Officers took Trampas Hutchinson, identified as a Lawrence transient, into custody without incident at 3 p.m. in the 800 block of Michigan Street.

Police had been looking for him since Tuesday morning when a suspect ran behind the counter at the pharmacy, 1410 Kasold Drive, and took several packages of Fentanyl patches, valued at $750. Fentanyl is a narcotic pain reliever.

The suspect ran into a neighborhood east of the shopping center, tried to enter a woman’s home and eventually flagged down a passing motorist, according to police. The suspect later took control of the man’s pickup truck when the driver got out. The suspect started driving the truck, briefly dragged the owner, who was not seriously injured, and left the area, police said.

The vehicle was involved in a noninjury accident at Bob Billings Parkway and Iowa street before it was abandoned on the Kansas University campus.

Police on Friday asked for the public’s help in finding Hutchinson. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of robbery, possession of Fentanyl and felony theft.
