February 12, 2010

A 42-year-old Ozawkie woman died Friday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Jefferson County. According to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, Katherine Olmsted was driving southbound on Ferguson Road about 5:35 p.m. when a vehicle heading the opposite direction entered her lane for unknown reasons.

The resulting accident was classified as a head-on collision. The driver of the other vehicle, 40-year-old James Allen of Ozawkie, was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka and was listed in fair condition as of Sunday afternoon.

Reports showed both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Both wore their seatbelts. tends to indicate this was a sad tragedy and maybe nobody was at fault.

Praying for her family and his recovery.

Thank You, LJW. I hope you maintain this policy of having comments being monitored on sensitive stories. Trajedy happens and some of the hurtful comments are not really needed right away.

Thoughts for the family members.

We came upon this accident shortly after it happened. It looked pretty bad. Neither of us have any medical traing so we stayed out of the way since there were already about a dozen other people helping. One of those pictures that has been hard to get out of my mind though. My prayers go out to the families of all involved.

How does the wearing of seat belts indicate that no one was at fault?

There is no skidmarks on the road either.. KHP crashlog is the best you will get next to being there.. Northbound driver went left of center and they hit head-on.. no skidmarks 55+55 like hitting a wall at 110, more for the smaller vehicle..
