Kansas University’s third finalist for its liberal arts dean position should be familiar with the position.

Greg Simpson has been the interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences since July, when former dean Joseph Steinmetz left for Ohio State University.

Simpson had been KU’s chairman of the psychology department since 1999. He has also served as KU’s acting associate dean of social sciences in 2005-06.

He is the third announced finalist of four. Susan Carlson, associate provost for faculty advancement and diversity at Iowa State University, visited campus last week, and Joseph C. Shields, chairman of the department of physics and astronomy was scheduled to visit campus Monday.

Simpson will visit with the university community in a public forum scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday in the Jayhawk Room at the Kansas Union.
