LHS girls win in OT

? The Lawrence High girls basketball team claimed its first victory of the season Friday night, knocking off St. Teresa’s, 53-50, in overtime.

Emily Peterson hit two free throws with five seconds left to send the game to overtime. Then Kristen Bell scored six of the Lions’ 10 points in overtime.

“It was a great win for us,” LHS coach Nick Wood said. “We needed it. We’ve had a long week. We’ve had to overcome a lot of adversity this week. … I’m really proud of them.”

Missing starters Bell and Rachel Kelly to illnesses, the Lions lost to Mill Valley, 40-23, on Thursday night.

In their victory, Tamiya Green led the Lions with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

LHS (1-3) will play Friday against Shawnee Mission Northwest.
