Lawrence High School girls soccer coach Matt Anderson resigns
Lawrence High girls soccer coach Matt Anderson officially submitted his resignation to athletic director Ron Commons on Wednesday. Anderson had indicated his intention to leave the school in May.
Anderson, who coached the girls for the last six seasons, said that his classwork in pursuit of an MBA through the University of Phoenix took more time than he originally planned. He also works as an account manager at Laser Equipment Inc. out of Kansas City.
“I could not commit to all three — coaching, work and the schooling,” Anderson said. “I felt it was just unfair to the young ladies to not give them the full attention that the program needs.”
Lawrence High’s tradition attracted him to the school in the first place, and he said he will miss being a soccer coach for the school.
Commons said the school would begin advertising for a replacement immediately.
“We want to thank coach Anderson for his hard work in improving our girls soccer program the past couple of years,” Commons said in a statement.
