Investigation continues into fatality accident in Franklin County

Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry says investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in a Saturday evening crash south of Ottawa that killed a 29-year-old Ottawa man and injured eight other people.

Curry said the Kansas Highway Patrol was still investigating the wreck that occurred 8:15 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 59 about 15 miles south of Ottawa.

According to a highway patrol report, 29-year-old Jason D. Price drove his northbound 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck left of the center line. His truck eventually struck the side of a southbound 2003 Chrysler minivan and then collided head-on with a 1996 Dodge pickup truck.

Price, who was not wearing his seat belt, died at the scene. According to the accident report, eight people in the other two vehicles were taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.

A nursing supervisor there said Monday that two of the patients were never admitted and five were treated and later released. Jeffrey Gardner, 41, of Louisburg, was transferred to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he was later released, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.
