The Oread side of the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center, 1740 Watkins Center Drive, reopened Monday afternoon after being closed Saturday afternoon.

A fire sprinkler broke about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when a ball hit it, sounding the fire alarm, said Mary Chappell, director of the rec center. The entire building was evacuated and closed for several hours, and water from the sprinkler rained down on the hardwood courts below.

While the area — which includes racquetball, soccer and basketball courts — will be open for use, Chappell said moisture under the hardwood courts remains a concern. Crews worked through the weekend using dehumidifiers and fans to reduce moisture.
