Lawrence man arrested after car chase

A 44-year-old Lawrence man was arrested after police chased his car through downtown and north Lawrence.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas, police tried to stop the car on a routine traffic stop on Vermont Street shortly after 1 a.m. and the car fled. The car drove through the downtown area before crossing the bridge and heading into north Lawrence.

Thomas said the chase ended in the 700 block of Lake Street after officers deployed stop sticks that deflated his tires. The suspect then fled on foot until officers caught up with him and arrested him.

The man was booked on multiple charges, including attempting to elude, reckless driving, failing to report an accident, driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended and leaving the scene of an accident.
