One hospitalized after possible hit-and-run
A 23-year-old Lawrence man was taken by air ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka early Sunday morning for injuries suffered in a possible hit-and-run accident.
According to police reports, an officer near the intersection of Sixth and Kentucky streets was contacted by the man just after 3 a.m. Sunday. The officer observed deep cuts in the man’s legs and back. The officer asked the man what had happened, but he said he did not know.
The man told the officer he had been drinking with friends and was going downtown. He said he then remembered waking up in some bushes and saw the patrol car.
The man was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital about 3:13 a.m. and then transported by air ambulance to Stormont-Vail about an hour later.
Police are investigating the incident. No vehicle description or accident location were known.
A condition update for the patient was not available Monday evening.
