Two men questioned after firing gun

Two men hunting raccoons southwest of Clinton Lake reported being shot at about 10 p.m. Thursday.

According to Sgt. Steve Lewis with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded and found a vehicle traveling back toward Lawrence. The deputy made a high-risk stop near Sixth and Congressional streets.

The two men in the car were taken in for questioning. Lewis said it was later determined the men did not know they were shooting at people. One of the men was arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to this incident and the other one was released. Lewis said the district attorney may seek charges of criminal discharge of a weapon.
