Jenkins proposes tax incentives for small businesses that hire soldiers, reservists

? U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins wants to encourage businesses to hire military reservists and National Guard members.

The Kansas Republican has introduced a bill she’s calling the “Hire a Hero Act,” to give small businesses an income tax credit of up to $2,400 for each reservist and Guard member they hire.

Jenkins outlined the proposal Monday during a news conference at the Museum of the Kansas National Guard.

Her proposal has 21 co-sponsors, including the other three members of Kansas’ delegation in the U.S. House.

Jenkins represents the 2nd Congressional District of eastern Kansas.

The district includes Forbes Field south of Topeka, which is home to several Army and Air Guard units, as well as two Army posts — Forts Leavenworth and Fort Riley.
