Police searching for armed robbery suspect

Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred early Saturday morning in the 600 block of Wisconsin Street.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, police were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the EconoLodge, 2222 West 6th St. for a suspected aggravated robbery. McLaren said the robbery had happened 20 minutes earlier and in the 600 block of Wisconsin Street.

McLaren said a 20-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was walking north on the curb when a white passenger vehicle stopped next to him. The driver, who was wearing a ski mask, demanded all his money. The suspect took the man's wallet with an undetermined amount of cash. The victim was not injured.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Lawrence police at 830-7430 or Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.

If the person was armed, it isn't worth it to run and risk being injured or killed over.

Not smart on the robbers part, robber sitting in his get-away car, calls the walker over and ask for all his money. Then drives off exposing his license tag number and drives into a motel 1 block away to go back to his room. That could be a story on TV's "Worlds Dummest Criminals" show.
