New members join KU Hospital board

Two new faces were around the Kansas University Hospital Authority Board’s table Tuesday discussing patient satisfaction reports and other hospital matters.

Tuesday marked the first official meeting for KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, who said she was pleased to be in attendance. The new chancellor stopped presenters multiple times, seeking more information on issues.

Also, Scott M. Slabotsky, managing director at the business services company CBIZ MHM, sat in on discussions as a nonvoting member. He was nominated to the board by Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson to replace Tom Murphy, a Sprint executive who died while vacationing last month in Colorado.

The Kansas Senate must confirm Slabotsky’s appointment before he officially takes his place on the board.

They heard Tammy Peterman, KU Hospital executive vice president and chief operating officer, talk about the hospital’s most recent patient satisfaction surveys, and she showed high marks in many categories, including overall patient satisfaction rates in the 93rd percentile compared with other hospitals in a national database.

The board also learned KU Hospital is one of 100 hospitals listed among Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work In Healthcare for 2009. Precise rankings of the 100 hospitals will be released in October. Other Kansas hospitals included on the list were the Hays Medical Center and the Neosho Memorial Regional Health Center in Chanute.
