Police were investigating Monday a reported battery, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated robbery that occurred between midnight and 2:00 a.m.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl and offense reports, police responded to a call at 2:07 a.m. from a 37-year-old Lawrence man reporting he had been forced into a car, driven to Jayhawk Motel, 1004 N. Third St., and robbed.

The man was in the 1700 block of W. 24th Street when a red four-door vehicle, believed to be driven by a black female, pulled over near him. The passengers, described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black shirt and a smaller black male wearing a red shirt, got out of the car and asked the victim to get into the vehicle.

When the man refused, the suspects struck him on the head and forced him into the vehicle. The suspects then drove the victim to the North Lawrence motel, where they apparently robbed him of $800 cash. No weapons were used or shown in the robbery.

As of Wednesday, police had not made any arrests in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Lawrence Police at (785) 832-7509 or the TIPS hot line at (785) 843-TIPS.

No weapons? What a weenie...And why would one be walking down 23rd street at 2 AM? Was the victim drunk?

They don't say how hard he was hit on the head. If the victim had been drinking, that changes nothing. It was still robbery. Why do so many go to the Jayhawk Motel for this kind of activity? You see the name in the paper quite often.

Man, the Jayhawk Motel is in the news as much as the Jayhawk basketball team.

Sounds like a dose of kidnapping as well.

Jayhawk Motel - convenient access to I-70 for a quick get a away. That's a pretty substantial clue that they weren't from around here.

This brings up the question: If they were just robbing a random person walking down the street, why would they make him get into the car and take him to the Jayhawk Motel and then just let him out there?

The man said he was walking down 23rd Street when a red four-door vehicle, believed to be driven by a black female, pulled over near him. The passengers, described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black shirt and a smaller black male wearing a red shirt, got out of the car and asked the victim to get into the vehicle.

---"asked the victim to get into the vehicle ..."
... "I say, Chap, won't you join us in our carriage ride about the illustrious city of Lawrence? We'd be so delighted to have your company!"

Jayhawk no-tell motel, yes easy access to I70, but also just run down scuzz. says more about the taste of the crooks than about where they're from.

walking on 23rd at that time of night? it was a very comfortable night, and today's a holiday...perhaps the victim is a poet, I don't know. not ready to attribute drunkenness to him yet.

once again, violent crime hits lawrence when Asher Fusco is on duty! you suppose if poor Asher were working the 8-5 daytime shift, all that crime would go into the daylight?

also, this morning in the country south of Eudora, something weird happened involving a nude man bearing only a towel.

I'm surprised LJWorld didn't give us a 'breaking news alert' on that one!

Maybe there are no security cameras at the motel, sounds like they should invest in some. I wonder if neighboring businesses had any cameras.

Jayhawk Motel is a good place to take strippers from Paradise Saloon or All-Stars. Can avoid the check points on the bridge, also.

I hope the guy is spinning a line to cover a stupid decision he made ... like a decision to get in the car with these folks to accept ... what, a party invitation? Dope? Jollies with the lady? Who knows ... It would feel better to know that was the case, than to think that the guy was randomly plucked from the streets --- streets, btw, where I have been out and about at virtually all hours, and rarely drunk enough to get near that car, or to not think "run-like-the-wind" when they asked him to get in.

Seems to me if they'd risk smacking him in the head on 23rd street, they could just take his money right there as well. Something more to this story.

---WH, are you trying to kill this local business? if Jayhawk no-tell motel put in cameras, they'd go outa bizness in a week!

perhaps he had an illicit liasion at the motel, and his wallet was taken...and now he has to explain it???

Hmmm...this situation does have something more to it than just "Hey I was walking down the street and suddenly someone just happened to kidnap me and rob me in North Lawrence" Uh huh...sure..
