2 cancer researchers join KU center

Two new cancer researchers have joined the Kansas University Cancer Center, bringing with them $3 million in National Cancer Institute funding.

Sharmila Shankar is serving as an associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, and Rakesh Srivastava is a professor of pharmacology, toxicology and therapeutics.

Both came to KU Medical Center from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler.

KU is actively recruiting researchers who have NCI-funded research to meet the requirements of $11 million in total NCI grant funding to obtain designation as a cancer center from the national organization.
