LHS volleyball finishes fourth in Emporia

? The Lawrence High volleyball team played to a fourth-place finish in the Emporia Invitational on Saturday. The Lions went 3-3.

LHS defeated Blue Valley West (25-15, 25-22), Free State (25-16, 25-13) and Junction City (25-16, 25-13). The Lions lost to Washburn Rural (19-25, 18-25), Topeka Seaman (20-25, 19-25) and Maize (18-25, 19-25).

“All three tournaments we’ve played in this year, we’ve made it to the gold bracket, which we haven’t done in years past,” LHS coach Stephanie Magnuson said. “Our communication has improved, along with our confidence level.”

Jasmyn Turner had 25 kills and 41 digs to lead the Lions. Kendyll Severa contributed 37 digs on defense. Kiely Mosiman had 94 assists in the tournament, and Lillian Schonewise had 38 kills and 19 blocks.

Lawrence High (19-15) will play host to a home triangular at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
