Gas line break slows traffic on East 23rd

October 16, 2009, 6:14 p.m. Updated October 16, 2009, 7:09 p.m.

Traffic on 23rd Street was slowed early Friday evening because of a gas line break.

Curt Floerchinger, Black Hills spokesman, says a third party struck a two-inch gas line shortly after 5 p.m., rupturing it.

A crew from Black Hills Energy and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical attended to the scene while Lawrence police directed traffic.

The line was repaired at about 7 p.m., and traffic on 23rd has returned to normal.

Nice to know the cross street. This way I will stay off 23 from east of Mass.
