Douglas County commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. today to discuss creating a public road right of way west of Lawrence.

Attorney John Solbach has submitted the request on behalf of the property owners Fred and Judy Vermette to create the right of way for North 1675 Road to the west of the terminus of East 350 Road.

Commissioners will also recognize Teri Smith, director of Douglas County Emergency Management, for winning Emergency Management Professional of the Year from the Kansas Emergency Management Association and Sheila Meggison, an emergency management planner, for being named the New Emergency Management Professional of the Year.

The meeting will be at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass. The commissioners do not have a 6:35 p.m. meeting this week.
