Two injured in Sunday afternoon accident

Two people were taken to hospitals about 12:30 Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle accident on the turnpike. According to reports from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a highway patrol trooper was investigating an accident in the westbound lane near mile marker 218 when a vehicle struck his car from behind after losing control. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Caleb Knueven of Fort Leavenworth, was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The trooper, Mark Christesen, 34, of Lawrence, was taken to an area hospital. A condition update for Christesen was not available Sunday evening.
