A graduate student who accidentally ingested a toxic chemical at a Kansas University lab last week was released from the hospital during the weekend, a university spokeswoman said Monday.
The student, who the university has not identified, was discharged Saturday from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was hospitalized in intensive care after ingesting sodium azide, a toxic chemical, KU said. The incident occurred Wednesday night while he was working in a fifth-floor lab at Malott Hall.
University spokeswoman Jill Jess, who said the investigation was ongoing, did not provide information about how the student accidentally ingested the chemical.
