Donor increases ophthalmology gift

A Kansas University alumnus recently boosted his support for an ophthalmology professorship by $250,000.

Luther Fry, a 1967 gradate of KU School of Medicine, established an endowed fund through the Kansas University Endowment Association for the Luther and Ardis Fry Professorship in Ophthalmology in 2001, and since then has provided $750,000 in support.

The medical school awards the professorship to the chair of the ophthalmology department. Dr. John Sutphin is the current chair.

Fry said that Sutphin’s work as head of the department is one reason for his continued donations.
