No decision made on Lone Star’s weeds
The Douglas County Commission didn’t take any action Wednesday night on the ongoing issue of overgrown vegetation in Lone Star Lake.
Curly leaf pond weed is prevalent throughout all four arms of the lake southwest of Lawrence, and residents are taking sides on how to control the weeds.
The commission heard arguments from both sides weighing options such as treating the pond weed with herbicide, removing the vegetation using mechanical methods or taking no action at all.
The county is looking into how labor-intensive mechanical removal would be and if enough volunteers could be gathered to help out, before taking the issue back to county commissioners.
Everyone was in agreement that a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.
