Injury accident

A 54-year-old Shawnee man was taken to Kansas University Hospital by air ambulance Saturday after being involved in a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 24-40 just south of Tonganoxie.

Dirk R. Yates was driving north on U.S. 24-40 when his motorcycle went off the road to the east and overturned, Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office reports said.

An official at KU Hospital said Monday that he could neither confirm nor deny Yates was a patient.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, reports said. Yates, who was not wearing a helmet, provided a blood sample for testing, the results of which are pending, reports said.
