LHS soccer falls

The Lawrence High girls soccer team grabbed a second-half lead but couldn’t hold on, falling 2-1 to Shawnee Mission East on Tuesday at Youth Sports, Inc.

LHS junior Olivia Dykes broke a scoreless tie in the second half, putting in a free kick from 26 yards out in the 56th minute.

Shawnee Mission East made up the deficit quickly, though, scoring goals in the 59th and 60th minutes.

LHS coach Matt Anderson cited goalkeeper Emma Lumpe and the defensive backline for solid play.

“It was a tough loss, but we made great strides and recovered after Saturday’s 6-0 loss to Olathe East,” Anderson said. “It was good to see girls show a nice level of resiliency.”

LHS (6-5, 3-4 Sunflower League) will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Olathe South.
