Baldwin City man accused of shooting his neighbor placed on probation

A Baldwin City man accused of shooting his neighbor in the head has been placed on probation.

Brian Pitts pleaded guilty in Douglas County District Court to domestic battery, two counts of battery, criminal trespass and criminal damage to property, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Charles Branson said Monday. Pitts, 36, was sentenced to two years of probation.

The first case against Pitts ended in a mistrial, when jurors failed to reach a verdict on the aggravated battery charge he faced. Jurors acquitted Pitts of a charge of aggravated burglary.

Pitts is accused of firing multiple shots in August inside his neighbor’s home in the 200 block of Elm Street in Baldwin City. Police said one of the bullets grazed his neighbor’s scalp.
