Lawrence police responded Thursday night to an accident involving a car and a train in east Lawrence.

The driver of the car, along with a passenger and a dog, escaped safely before the train hit the vehicle, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman. The accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on the tracks crossing East 11th Street just east of Haskell Avenue.

The vehicle, which was totaled, was removed from the tracks within an hour of the accident.
