Lions drop opener in Oklahoma

? The Lawrence High baseball team dropped its season-opener, 11-8, to Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe on Friday.

Jake Green went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for LHS, while Chase McElhaney went 2-for-4.

LHS coach Brad Stoll said mental mistakes in the fifth inning cost the Lions the game against the second-ranked team in Oklahoma.

“For the first game out of the box, we did a lot of really positive things we can build on,” Stoll said.

Lions starting pitcher Andy Irvin was effective, giving up two runs on one hit in three innings.

LHS will face Midwest City at noon today in Edmond.
