A telephone text message circulating nationwide indicated there would be a gang initiation and shooting at a Wal-Mart store Thursday night though it doesn’t identify where, police said.

The message has been circulating since 2005.

Lawrence police said they didn’t see it as a credible threat and they’re not taking special precautions because of it.

In a news release Thursday, Topeka Police said the text message is a hoax and is based on an urban legend that has been around in some form for several years.
