Law enforcement report

Lawrence police arrested two Lawrence residents for beating a 22-year-old Haskell basketball player at a party early Sunday morning, police said.

Jimmy Wilkett was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital around 4 a.m. Sunday morning with injuries to his head and an eye. A nursing supervisor said Wilkett was treated and released on Sunday.

Sgt. Susan Hadl said Wilkett was at a party at Orchard Corners Apartments, 1405 Apple Lane, when he was reportedly jumped by a number of people at the party and struck several times in the face and head. Wilkett then lashed out and broke a TV set in the residence, Hadl said, which instigated another beating.

Police arrested a 20-year-old Haskell student and a 17-year-old Lawrence resident for aggravated battery. Bond was not set for the 20-year-old.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical reported no calls on Sunday.
