Meth dealer receives nine-year sentence
A California man has been sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison for making monthly meth deliveries to Lawrence.
John Gilmore, 47, San Bernardino, Calif., pleaded guilty to the drug charges in May 2008.
In his plea, he admitted that between 2005 and 2007 he delivered up to 12 pounds of methamphetamine a month from California to Lawrence.
Gilmore was arrested in February 2007 at Baymont Inn, 740 Iowa, after purchasing five pounds of a chemical used to dilute meth from a local farm supply store.
Inside his hotel room, investigators found methamphetamine and materials used to package the drug for sale.
Investigators said that during Gilmore’s monthly trips to Lawrence, he would carry up to $115,000 in cash, concealing the money and drugs in computer cases while traveling by Amtrak.
Two co-defendants in the case are scheduled to be sentenced next month.
