The Kansas University Public Safety Office has released sketches of two men who may have been involved in three robberies near campus early Saturday morning.
One of the robberies happened at 1:50 a.m. outside Sprague Apartments, 1400 Alumni Place. Police said a delivery driver was “struck in the face and put in a headlock” by two suspects, who then took the victim’s money. Campus police said the suspects left, walking east toward 14th and Ohio streets.
About 10 minutes later, Lawrence police said, two 21-year-old KU students were walking home from a bar near 14th and Ohio streets when they were robbed in a parking lot of Emery Place apartments, 1419 Ohio.
Another robbery occurred about 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Ohio Street, where a man was robbed at knifepoint and money was stolen from him.
A KU crime alert said the descriptions of the suspects match in all three robberies. The suspects are described as being about 6 feet tall, in their mid-20s, weighing about 180 pounds, and wearing dark clothing and jeans. One of the suspects was wearing a blue, flat-billed baseball cap with the letter “D” on it. Police said four men were involved in the earliest robbery.
The three Saturday morning robberies are the latest in a string of robberies that have occurred:
• On June 6, a 27-year-old man was robbed while walking down an alley in the 900 block of Massachusetts Street. A passenger in an older red Cadillac demanded his wallet at gunpoint.
• The evening before, two men were robbed while walking through South Park in the 1200 block of Massachusetts Street. The victims said three men accosted them, knocked one of them to the ground and stole one man’s wallet.
• On May 17, a man was approached by two suspects in the 1300 block of West Seventh Street. The men were in a car and robbed the victim at gunpoint.
• Twenty minutes later on May 17, at 2:35 a.m., three men were approached in the alley behind Stadium View Apartments, 1040 Miss., and robbed at gunpoint. The suspects, who fired a shot in the air, were described as being 6 feet tall and in their 20s or 30s.
• On April 26, a KU student was approached by two or three suspects in a parking lot near McCollum Hall, 1800 Engel Road. The suspects demanded his money at gunpoint, in broad daylight, and left in an old, brownish-maroon sedan, possibly a Chevrolet.
• On April 17, a woman’s purse was stolen by four men in the 1200 block of Ohio Street. The woman was knocked to the ground.
• On March 27, a KU student was hit on the head and robbed on the west side of McCollum Hall. Four suspects hit him on the head and took his wallet at 4 a.m.
• A 32-year-old Pizza Shuttle deliver driver was robbed by two men Feb. 19, in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road.
Lawrence police said they’re investigating the robberies, but haven’t determined how many are connected.
Anyone with information about any of the robberies is asked to contact KU police at 830-7430 or Lawrence police at 832-7509.

The race of the suspect is only mentioned when they are black. The race of the others is left unsaid.
Why?
In every one.

Time to START squealin', folks.

Irish, and your question is? You are usually the 1st to make a comment such as that.

maybe they got tired of putting "black" in every single robbery report. it's getting to the point that they should only point out when the suspects are white.
and if you're playing the race card today, take note of the rape suspect as being thin & white.

something you want to tell us Arumer? lol

If the police released sketches, do we get to see them? Don't you think they would be attached to the article?
zettapixel (anonymous) says…
Is it me or do those guys in the sketches look exactly the same except one has a baseball cap on and one doesn't? We've got twin robbers on our hands!
zettapixel (anonymous) says…
A few vigilantes just need to ride around downtown in an SUV with an M134 mini gun sticking out of the roof. Anytime the bad guys show up, you just fire a few "warning shots."

The first sketch looks like Kobe, and the second one looks like LeBron. The Lawrence PD better put the double team on them!

those sketches are ridiculous. are they twins?
METALQ2 (anonymous) says…

Can someone please tell me why it is that ljworld can't cover the multiple car robberies/break ins that occurred Thursday night/early Friday morning in the quiet family neighborhoods of west Lawrence? Is it because we're not located in the student ghetto? Maybe it's just me, but thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from cars on multiple streets is something that should be investigated or talked about.

Kind of looks like a guy I just saw getting arrested on 6th street. The pullover was holding up traffic near 6th and Florida about 5pm. White Cadillac.

jayhawk225, The LJWorld does not report crimes or publish the names of those arrested even though it is public information that is given to them by all the Law Enforcement Departments in this County. This is a public safety issue, but the LJWorld does not care. They also do not report court news either. I know a lot of people who refuse to purchase the LJWorld but still read it online as it is not worth paying for.

Why do the sketches look alike, one has a hat and the other doesn't. Are the suspects brothers or is the sketch artist implying that all black folks look alike. I'm feeling like there's a little racism going on here. No, I'm not trying to play a race card, it's just one of those things that make me go hhhmmmmmmm!!
igby (anonymous) says…
Yep!
I've seen them three or four times last week traveling down Ohio street in a late model mid-size car. Can't remember the color, fancy wheels and booming, but when they drove by, the passenger was always counting money like they were making drug deliveries somewhere along 1100 Ohio. The guy in the cap was the driver and both these guys are skinny and about the same built. The cap was in fact blue.
They may live somewhere up by that motel or in Berkley flats area.
Next time I see them I'll get the plate number!

There always rolling through around 4:30 too 6:30 pm, seen them 4 times in 1100 block about the same time four days in a row. That's why I remembered them, because every day i seen the same guys and the passenger was counting money as they drove by, same car same guys.

Theses look like East St. Louis thugs!

The driver drives with that "shoulder lean", if you know what I mean.

========================
If you look at the actual PDF, it appears the images have been computer generated. The sketch artist probably start from a generic template and worked backwards. The reason they look the same is that many of the elements of the face, in those drawings, are identical.
Or they could be twins.

I hope they try it with me, I carry mine always!
Maybe I'll just give them a couple warning shots(in the groin)...whoops!!
Get your ccw and carry, protect yours and your family.
